Dennis Dirkmaat, Ph.D., D-ABFA, Mercyhurst University, Tripwire Operations Group, and HD Forensics will be presenting a series of forensic anthropology-themed short courses throughout 2019.

General Information:

For the first time, a two-week comprehensive forensic anthropology review course will be held at Mercyhurst University, June 3-14 featuring an All-Star cast of some the best and brightest young forensic anthropologists in the country, including –

Dr. Heather Garvin (Associate Professor of Anatomy, Dept. of Anatomy, Des Moines Medical University), Dr. Sara Getz (Assistant Professor, Dept. of Anthropology, Idaho State University), Dr. Joseph T. Hefner (Assistant Professor, Dept. of Anthropology, Michigan State University), Nicholas V. Passalacqua (Assistant Professor and Forensic Anthropology Program Coordinator, Anthropology and Sociology Dept., Western Carolina University), Christopher Rainwater (New York Medical Examiner’s Office), Dr. Kyra Stull (Assistant Professor, Dept. of Anthropology, University of Nevada, Reno), as well as long-established veterans Dr. Dennis Dirkmaat (Director, Applied Forensic Sciences Dept., Professor of Anthropology Mercyhurst University) and Dr. Steve Symes (Mississippi Medical Examiner’s Office).

The immersive course will cover all aspects of the field as recognized today: Forensic Osteology, Forensic Archaeology, and Forensic Taphonomy. This course is a great way for students and professionals to explore the field, and make connections for graduate school and beyond.

Other courses offered this year include the 27th annual Death Scene Archaeology class (May 27-30), the longest running forensic archaeology class in the world. Also being offered are specialized forensic scene recovery courses covering Fatal Fire Scenes (July 10-13), and Large-Scale Mass Disaster Scenes (July 15-18), all to be held in Gettysburg, PA. An introductory Forensic Osteology Class (May 22-31) will also be offered.
