PhD Student

Helena has a BSc in Biology, a MSc in Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences and has a postgraduate diploma in Forensic Anthropology (Faculty of Sciences & Technology and Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra). At this time she is enrolled in the Forensic Anthropology doctoral program, with the objective to create new bridges between Forensic Genetics and Forensic Anthropology. Her line of investigation focus in DNA methylation as an age at death predictor. She is interested to test if the use of this chemical process as an age predictor in bodies and human remains recovered from exceptional scenarios is available, and to evaluate if there are alterations in these DNA methylation patterns before and after fire effect.
