FASE Basic Workshop in Coimbra

 

From 1th to 5th September 2016, FASE Basic Workshop on Forensic Anthropology was held in the Department do Life Science of the University of Coimbra, and gathered researchers from all over the world. It was 5 days of acquisition and deepening of theoretical and practical knowledge on forensic anthropology.

Biological profile estimation (sex, age, ancestry and stature) and traumatism were some of the topics covered in the practical and theoretical classes. This edition featured renowned speakers in different areas of Forensic Anthropology, such as Ann Ross, Cristina Cattaneo, Douglas Ubelaker, Eric Baccino, Eugenia Cunha, Philippe Léfévre, Laurent Martrille, Anja Petaros, Maria Teresa Ferreira, Zuzana Obertova. Forty-six people from various countries (Italy, Colombia, Brazil, Lebanon, Argentina, France, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Sweden, Czech Republic, Finland, and Turkey) participated in this edition, which also had a strong practical component leading to consolidate information and discuss different cases.

 

De 1 a 5 de setembro de 2016, decorreu no Departamento de Ciências da Vida da UC o Fase Basic Workshop, que reuniu investigadores de todo o mundo. Foram cinco dias de aquisição e aprofundamento de conhecimentos teóricos e práticos na área da antropologia forense.

As temáticas de diagnose sexual, estimativa de idade, ancestralidade, estatura e traumatismos foram alguns dos tópicos abordados nas aulas teóricas e práticas. Esta edição contou com oradores de renome em diferentes áreas da Antropologia Forense, como Ann Ross, Cristina Cattaneo, Douglas Ubelaker, Eric Baccino, Eugénia Cunha, Philippe Léfévre, Laurent Martrille, Anja Petaros, Mª Teresa Ferreira, Zuzana Obertova. Quarenta e seis pessoas de vários países (Itália, Colômbia, Brasil, Líbano, Argentina, França, Suíça, Reino Unido, Suécia, Republica Checa, Finlândia, Turquia) participaram nesta edição, que contou ainda com uma forte componente prática, permitindo consolidar matérias e discutir diferentes casos.

FASE Basic Workshop in Forensic Anthropology

The next basic workshop in forensic anthropology will be held in the beautiful city of Coimbra (Portugal) known also as the city which houses the renowned Human Identified Collection and the newly established 21st century identified skeletal collection, both based within the Department of Life Sciences, Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Coimbra.

The workshop will last for 5 days and will be divided in theoretical and practical sessions.

The teaching staff will include Prof Eugénia Cunha (University of Coimbra, Portugal), Prof Cristina Cattaneo (University of Milan, Italy), Prof Ann Ross (North Carolina State University, USA), Prof Eric Baccino (University of Montpellier, France), Prof Douglas Ubelaker (Smithsonian Institution, USA), Dr. Zuzana Obertova (University of Milan, Italy), Dr. Teresa Ferreira (University of Coimbra, Portugal), Anja Petaros, MD (University of Rijeka, Croatia).

The number of places at the workshop is limited to 30 so early registrations are welcomed.

Update on FASE Basic Workshop on Forensic Anthropology

Dear all,

Soon starts the renown international workshop in forensic anthropology organized by FASE. After several editions in Italy, Spain, Denmark, Turkey, Croatia and Hungary, the workshop will be held for the first time in Portugal. The organization will be coordinated by FASE/IAlm (Forensic Anthropology Society of Europe / International Academy of Legal Medicine) and the LFA (Laboratory of Forensic Anthropology) of the Department of Life Sciences, University of Coimbra.

It should also be noted that in the following days, 6th and 7th of September, the Department of Life Sciences at the University of Coimbra will held the only official accreditation exam in Europe for experts in Forensic Anthropology. The evaluation committee will be chaired by Eugénia Cunha (Portugal), and also has Cristina Cattaneo (Italy), Douglas Ubelaker (USA), Ann Ross (USA), Gerald Quatrehomme (France) and Sue Black (UK).
